HOE- HUM
Network news is the Devil's ipod of subjective, yellow journalistic "reporting". The recent buzz about _____'s comment "....nappy headed hoes" is out of control.
First, why does it have to be a racial discourse. Many African- Americans have coarse hair which tends to nap, naturally. It is not a slur or degrading. What is degrading is the term "hoe, ho, whore". But unless my eyes deceived me, the team was multicultural.
So why then are we discussing "race" and not gender, or misogyny? A hoe by any other name is a hoe. Its meaning is relative to who and why its being used.
Are there any "hoes" on the Rutger's basketball team? Possibly. But it is also possible there are hoes at msnbc, fox, cnn, cbs, the senate and everywhere else you find people. Now do these people consider themselves "hoes"?... probably not. The only self-proclaimed "hoes" I know appeared on an episode of jerry Springer.
Secondly, this is an age-old attack, the Achilles heel for many women. Even I have to admit to have been provoked with that tag.
Finally and seriously though people, come on lets all grow up. Just because "he" said it, don't make it so. He's like candyman, or beetlejuice and even the leprechaun....he just wants to hear you say his name three times, make him "big" or let him out of the box. Let's not give him life. Send him into exile with the others who try to take the sleazy ride to fame.
